Bonfire Night

Cambridge, renowned for its prestigious university and rich cultural heritage, comes alive in a blaze of colour and excitement every November 4th for Bonfire Night. Also known as Guy Fawkes Night, this centuries-old tradition commemorates the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. In Cambridge, this event is more than just fireworks and bonfires; it’s a celebration that bridges the gap between history, community, and fun. In this blog post, let’s explore the magic of Bonfire Night in Cambridge and why it’s a must-visit event for locals and tourists alike.

Bonfire Night in Cambridge is not just a display of pyrotechnics; it’s a nod to history. The night commemorates the failed attempt by Guy Fawkes and his associates to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Every year, Cambridge residents gather to remember the events of 1605, making it a celebration steeped in historical significance.

The highlight of Bonfire Night in Cambridge is, of course, the breathtaking fireworks display. The sky above Cambridge lights up with a myriad of colours, creating a visual spectacle that leaves spectators in awe. Families and friends gather to witness the night sky adorned with dazzling bursts of light, creating cherished memories under the canopy of stars.

Every year, this Fireworks Night is organised by Cambridge City Council and is held at Midsummer Common, which is just a stone’s throw from The Fellows House. This event is one of the city’s longest-running traditions, with thousands of locals watching the spectacular fireworks show. The fireworks display starts at 7 pm.
